| Gernot Kostera Awards Ceremony takes place in Hinton! |

February 21, 2010. Hinton, AB. Alberta Biathlon Club hosted the 2010 Gernot Kostera Biathlon Awards in Hinton this weekend. This annual event has become a great tradition in Alberta's biathlon community as each year one boy and one girl are recognized for their athletic, academic and personal achievements. This year's award ceremony took place in Hinton at the banquet hosted on the occasion of Western Championships/Alberta Championships races. Gernot Kostera Awards are named after the late Gernot Kostera, who was a passionate and enthusiastic supporter of our sport. Gernot served as a President of Alberta Biathlon Club and was a founding father of ABC's famous Caravan program. He established a fund to support young biathletes before passing away after a long battle with cancer in 2005. In his name, 6 young athletes have been awarded with $1000 cheques since 2007, when the first Gernot Kostera Award dinner took place in Canmore. The winners of the 2010 Gernot Kostera Awards are: Eric Hall, Foothills Nordic Ski Club Megan Bankes, Foothills Nordic Ski Club In addition to Gernot Kostera awards Alberta Biathlon Club recognized two more deserving athletes with a free registration for ABC's annual summer biathlon camp. The winners of the ABC Biathlon Awards are: Aidan Millar, Canmore Nordic Ski Club Kamille Shoenberger, Hinton Nordic Ski Club Alberta Biathlon Club would like to thank Irene Proulx and Hinton Nordic Ski Club for organizing a great banquet and helping out with the awards and a silent auction that enabled us to raise additional funds to support young Albertan biathletes.
