February 11, 2010. Canmore, AB. There is no better way to celebrate the upcoming Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver than to race. And race we did last night in Canmore at the ABC's Biathlon Team Challenge. This popular Relay event is the only competition in Alberta where kids and parents get to race together as a team and where novice athletes get to shoot .22 cal rifles while competing against the active biathletes. All this is done in a fun, no pressure environment where the first goal is to enjoy the sport the best you can. 23 teams (46 people) in five different categories lined up at the start to take on the zigzaging ski course and test their shooting skills. The weather conditions could not have been better as skis were fast and the wind was minimal. The long night ended with a loud and cheery award ceremony where the top three finishers in each category were recognized with some cool prizes from Alberta Biathlon Club. Alberta biathlon Club would like to thank the coaches and parents from the Canmore Nordic Ski Club for helping us run a great race. Next ABC event will take place in Calgary, at Canada Olympic Park on Saturday, March 13, 2010. Annual Air Rifle Championship!
