January 24, 2010. Canmore, AB. This was the last Kinder Cup race of the season in the Bow Valley. The event attracted 20 young athletes, many of whom have never raced or even tried biathlon before. The weather was very biathlon-friendly as the kids repeatedly took on a 250 m race course with either three or four shooting bouts. Despite the relatively low number of athletes the parents and the spectatetors were treated to some very entertaining racing. Midget girls started the battle first when the two of them went head to head right down to the finish with one of them edging the other one by mere few seconds. Juvenile boys picked up the trend and went at it right off the start chasing each other all the way to the last shooting bout and a ski lap when both the winner and a runner-up collapsed after crossing the finish line. What an intensity, what a race! Fot their hard fought battles on the race course the top three finishers in each category were awarded with the signature Kinder Cup medals along with some great prizes from ABC. At the end everyone received a Maple Leaf umbrella-hat to celebrate the upcoming Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver. Alberta Biathlon Club would like to thank the parents for helping out with the race set-up and clean-up. Your assistance is much appreciated. The Kinder Cup #5, the last race in the seson-long series will most likely take place in Hinton, AB in early March . The confirmation on this event will be posted on ABC website once the planning is complete.
